Sri Lankan Cancer Hospital Nurses Stop Performing Chemo Therapy To Patients



The nursing staff attached to the only cancer hospital in Sri Lanka, Maharagama Cancer Hospital, stopped performing chemotherapy treatment to  the cancer patients since yesterday demanding three professional demands. Due to this trade union action lives of over 500 indoor and outdoor cancer patients who are receiving this treatment are in danger, according to the hospital sources.


A large number of child patients are among the chemotherapy receipients. The nursing staff is demanding to give safety equipment for the cancer nursing staff: an internationally qualified training program for nurses on chemotherapy and ten thousend rupee risk allowance.


Last year, the nursing staff of the Maharagama Cancer Hospital stopped performing chemotherapy treatment on two occassions  but failed to  win their demands.
