One positive case in Jammu but Kashmir region free from Swine Flu
Srinagar,August 11, (Vijay Kumar) - Minister for Medical Education, R.S.Chib and Minister for Health, Sham Lal Sharma have said that so far no case of Swine Flu has been reported in Kashmir, however, one case has been found positive in Government Medical College, Jammu. The reported case is a student studying in Pune.
The Ministers stated this while addressing a crowded press conference organized to bring mass awareness among the people through print and electronic media here today.
The Ministers apprised that the government has taken all necessary measures for screening, surveillance, isolation and treatment for dealing with the Swine Flu viral. These include screening of national/international flights coming from different parts of the country and abroad. The Rapid Monitoring/Response Teams consisting of trained medical and para-medical staff deployed at the Airports of Jammu, Srinagar and Leh are screening all individuals who are arriving from foreign countries. Isolation wards have also been established at Jammu, Srinagar and Leh Airports.
Besides, the Ministers stated that till date, 30,736 passengers coming from different States and countries to Jammu and Kashmir have been screened for the purpose.
They said uptill now, the samples of suspected cases are being sent to the laboratory of National Institute of Communicable Diseases, New Delhi for testing purposes. However, the State Government will have its own testing lab soon, as the requisition has already been made to the Central Government.
In order to assess the situation, a special medical team from New Delhi has arrived in the State to supervise and monitor the steps beign taken by the State government authorities for controlling the dreaded disease and also for assisting the health functionaries of the State to extend precautionary measures to the people.
They said that thrust is being given towards Information, Education and Communication (IEC) activities in collaboration with Education Department by informing people about the pre-cautions and necessary measures to be taken so that chances of human to human infection could be minimized.
Speaking about the symptoms, they stated that sudden fever, throat infection, coughing, running nose and respiratory diseases should be immediately diagnosed in health centers for further timely pathological tests of the patient.
Regarding stocks available, the Ministers said that adequate medicines and equipments are available with health department which include tablets, PPE Triple Layer Masks, N95 Masks, Ear digital thermometer.
Appealing both print and electronic media for playing an effective role in propagating the message regarding spread of this dreaded virus, the Ministers stressed for all out efforts to create awareness among every individual of the State to prevent themselves from the disease.
