The Economy and Today's College Students

I feel badly for today's college students! Gone are the days of cheap beer and cold pizza. This economy has ruined the college experience for many University students across the US.

In years ( months) past a call home with the request to send money could be deciphered as- it's Thursday and I need money for the keg and pizza party this weekend.

Now, when a parent gets the "please send money" it's for gas, books and food from the cafateria on campus.

Where is their 'Animal House"? What happened to taking pride in making excuses to the parents for the needs of more funds?

Gone are the days of creative excuses for $100 - IE:" Mom, no really! I have run out of paper and ink for the printer & my mac modem spring regulator went out! I can't believe my luck, I cannot go to class with that spring regulator missing. Can you send me money right away? I have a physics exam due to tomorrow!"....

Now our students are calling with a whine in their voice that has a ring of truth to it: IE: " Mom I need some money for a bag of peanuts to eat ( it's all I can afford), my car is out of gas and I can't drive to the other side of the campus for some decent food. Or you could you just send me some Top Ramen until the end of the month."

So sad for our college students, they now have to ask for money for real things, and missing out on the memories created at the weekend parties, inpromptu get togethers and the occassional extra large pizza with everything on it.

I am sorry for the youth of America. This economy has obviously affected you in a negative way- on the bright side....doesn't honesty feel good?
