The eastern and southern sides of the Brahmaputra valley

 The eastern and southern sides of the Brahmaputra valley are also walled up by mountains- the Patkoi Range with the peak Saramethi rising to 12,000 feet, the Naga Hills exceeding the 8,000 feet Japvo, the Khasi Hills having a 6,000 feet high peak just over Shillong, which till recently was Assam’s capital.

The Himalays in the north are lower than in Sikkim and Nepal and have fewer snowy giants. The highest peaks, Nacham Barwa, Gyalperi and Chomolhari, are the between 23,000 and 25,000 feet above sea level. The giants are not seen but in autumn the 20,000 feet high Gorichen Range in Arunachal Pardesh often see from the valley. Otherwise, the outstanding feature is the Black Mountain in Bhutan, 16,000 feet high but snow- covered in winter.
