The food in Pondicherry is a as cosmopolitan as its people .We were staying at an ashram –guest house, so we could eat at the ashram dining hall where the food is simple, decent and cheap, but a little monotonous. We liked to intersperse it with different types of food in different restaurants.
Cafes in the town offer quite a variety, with a predominance of south Indian style food. French haute cuisine is a specialty at the fine Hotel D’ Europe, and the more adventurous can sample Far Eastern cooking at the informal Café Viet Nam. The modern aquarium maintained by the Fisheries deportment has a collection of rare ornamental fish and gives an idea of various methods of fishing.
Around the corner from here is Aurobindo’s Samadhi. The white monument under which is buried is decorated daily by a devoted band of Ashramites with a profusion of flowers.
