VC, JU for Strengthening Disaster Management Apparatus
Jammu, August 11 (Scoop News) – One day training programme was organised by IIPA, J&K Regional Branch, Jammu on “Disaster Preparedness with special reference to J&K”. Prof. Mohan.Paul.Singh Ishar, Vice- Chancellor University of Jammu was the chief guest on the occasion. Pradeep Gupta IAS Divisional Commissioner,
Prof Ishar emphasised on the fact that apart from proper training and awareness among general masses, availability of technology, adequate training and communication play a key and critical role in minimizing the adverse affect of natural disasters. He offered the services of University Academia to help government agencies in formulating plans for preparing Disaster Management Schemes.
Pradeep Gupta, IAS Divisional Commissioner, Jammu remarked that there is a need for focus on the National Disaster Management act 2005 which provides funding to deal with natural disasters both at National & State level and also stressed upon the role of awareness address in order to prepare the masses.
The key note was given by Prof. G.M.Bhat, H.O.D. Deptt. of Geology, University of Jammu in which he highlighted the earthquake prone areas of J&K State and threw light on the principles of disaster management and cautioned to take steps to prepare ourselves for future disasters.
Dr. Ashok Bhan, Chairman, IIPA Regional branch stressed on the need for collaborative work to be done by administration and academia to improve governance in general.
Eminent speakers Aamir Ali, OSD with Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Prof. S.K.Pandita,
JBS Johar, Hony Secretary IIPA, welcomed the dignitaries and participants on the occasion.
Dr. Renu Nanda, Associate Professor , P.G. Department of Education moved the vote of thanks and conducted the programme.
