Wedding rituals of the BHIL Tribals

Marriage is a very important ceremony among the tribals of Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat called Bhils.Bhils spend a lot on their wedding ceremony.It all begins with the search for a prospective b by thride by the boy's  family.

A brahman  with a coconut is consulted for matching the horoscope of the bride and the prospective groom.If astrology permits then the match is fixed by allowing a bride price.

On the auspicious day the goom's father arrives at the brides house with gifts of  clothes ,coconut and betel and KUKU powder with his friends and relatives.

The following marriage rituals are noteworthy.

The setting up of the  marriage mandap.

The mahat were the son is separated from the mother.

Wedding rituals start with the procession to the brides house.

The bride and groom go around a ceremonial pole for a number of times.

The groom then pulls down the marriage mandap on them selves

by using one hand at the brides house and using two hands on the house.

Thus a bhil family is set up.
