Condom ad ban sought

An advocacy group sought the intervention of concerned authorities to ban the advertisement of condom, the male contraceptive which has been in the markets for quite long years now. The advertisement is being aired in television and in radio nationwide.

The Family Media Advocacy Foundation complained that the advertisement encourages pre-marital sex among youths and promiscuity on the married males. They further noted that the condom ads which premises on vulgarity could actually influence the public to accept condom as part of the norm.

The group, in partnership with the Philippines Catholic Church believes that condom or any contraceptives are against the laws of the Vatican. Based on their arguments, contraceptives defile the Christian faith and the sanctity of the family per se.

But DKT, the company behind “FRENZY and TRUST” condoms which is being marketed in the Philippines, argued that condom prevents the spread of HIV-AIDS and unwanted pregnancy. Though the company has advertisements running regularly, the Filipino men rarely use condoms.
