Energy can be saved by modifying the existing lighting controls
We should always use lamps of lower wattage
We should always use lamps of lower wattage, if these can serve the purpose. Fluorescent lamps are the best suited for heights up to seven meters because of their efficiency and low brightness.
Tips have proved suitable and useful in energy conservation
A) Use modern luminaries having good cleaning capabilities and higher efficiencies in place of outdated and damaged luminaries.
B) Lower luminaries to provide the recommended light on the area at reduced wattage. Some companies have brought out low wattage high luminance equipment, which saves energy. In some cases, energy can be saved by modifying the existing lighting controls.
C) Photocell switching to turn off banks of lighting in areas where the natural light is sufficient for the task.
D) Provide, as an alternative to the above, localized switches near doorways or panel boards.
E) Ensure maintenance of light system components for higher efficiency and conserving energy as well as costs. This would also help in maintaining quality illumination and give longer life to the luminaries.
F) Check the out pout the lamps by using a calibrated light meter. If the output has fallen to seventy per cent of the original output then fixtures in the group should be re-lamped.
G) Lamps should be cleaned at regular intervals so that they give maximum efficiency.
H) Reflecting surfaces and shielding media should be cleaned frequently to improve reflective qualities to illumination lateral levels on jobs that need some natural light.
