Isn’t it wonderful that birds whom nature has no given hands, should build beautiful nests?
Every one needs a cozy, comfortable house to lead his life happily with the members of his family. Like wise animals and birds to need a shelter. Domestic animals are provided shelter by their masters, but wild animals live in caves, burrows or under the shady trees.
Birds like men, make their houses with much effort. Not only are their houses cozy and comfortable, but also very artistic.
a) Have you ever thought difficult life would be without a house? However thanked God for giving men hands to built houses?
b) How do birds manage to build shelter for themselves without hands and without proper material?
How birds make houses without bricks, cement, iron, wood or stone. Birds have their own material for this –twigs, straw, feathers, threads, grass, leaves, hair, and clay. Their skill lies in changing these waste matters into well planned nests.
Birds build an enormous variety of nests
Pigeons- they build their nests in cities. Where it is high, flat and sheltered, pigeons build their nests. They use anything they can find to build them-crumpled rock, weeds, mud or grass. Some pigeons, of course, do not bother to make nests at all. They lay their eggs out in the open. If we look under a concrete city bridge, we might see a pigeon nest.
Sparrows-they build grassy nests all most any place that is small and snug –over the outside part of air conditioners, under eaves, and in the rain gutters of houses.
Tailorbirds- they sew leaves together to form a nest. They use their bill as a needle and natural fibers as threads.
Weaverbirds- they too use their bills to weave elaborate enclosed nests of grass.
Woodpeckers- they keep pecking at the trunks of trees with their hard and sharp beaks. They make holes in trees for their nests. The holes have nothing except for weed chips.
Plover- her nest is a slight hollow on bare ground. They line the hollow with gravel or twigs.
Vulture- her nest is a large, shabby mass of twigs, filth rags, hair and rubbish on a ledge of rock or niche in ruined buildings, old crumbling mosques, etc.
Cuckoo- the cuckoo like some lazy people does not build a nest. It lays egg in the nest of a crow. It eggs are hatched by the female crow.
Observing is a hobby with some people.
