Mega-Mosquitoes Headed for Central Florida This Summer

People who are planning to travel to the central Florida area this summer had better pack long legged pants, long sleeved shirts, socks and plenty of powerful mosquito repellent because it has been reported in an article in the DailyMail.Co.uk/news article that mega-mosquitoes, the size of quarters, are expected to take over the central areas of Florida in large numbers' this summer.

I don't know about you readers but mosquitoes are a number one enemy to my flesh and I will almost scratch myself to death from any type of mosquito sting/bite. It was stated in the article that these mosquitoes have been known to bite through clothes too.

In the article it was reported scientists have warned a special breed which is 20 times bigger than the Asian tiger mosquitoes are bound for the central Florida areas and they're nuisance bugs and known to be 'notoriously agressive`.

It was also reported by scientists at the University of Florida that last year's tropical storms will direct them straight to the perfect breeding grounds. These type mosquitoes are known as Gallinippers or Psorophora ciliate with a half inch long bodies and they have the same black-white color pattern of the Asian tiger mosquito and with a wingspan of 6-7 millimeters and that they could become common pests this summer for Florida this summer.

It has also been said that these mosquitoes whop a bite/sting that really hurts and because of their size they're often able to withstand common repellants.

I cannot imagine being attacked by these type mosquitoes because of my tendency to scratch until I break the skin and then infections may attack my entire body to leave darken spots for months.

The Gainsville Sun was told by Phil Kaufman, an Etomologist, associate professor with the University of Florida's Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences that because of the tropical storms of last year and the number of eggs laid, the central Florida areas can expect large numbers of these pesky mosquitoes.

These mosquitoes are native to the eastern half of North America and it said in the report, they don't carry diseases dangerous to humans like some of their smaller counterparts. They have a tendency of being found near floodwater which is their hatching grounds.

The Gallinipper female mosquito is the stinger/biter and the males feed on the flowers of nectar. They'll also feed on tadpoles and other mosquito larvae where they're active at dusk and dawn.
