Natural Remedies for Curing Arteriosclerosis

Arteriosclerosis is one of the most common diseases of the modern age. It affects the blood vessels and a thickening of the walls of the arteries takes place due to the presence of lime or calcium. It accounts for a higher rate of mortality among aged people.

Due to arteriosclerosis the elasticity of the blood vessels is lost which leads to the narrowing of the small arteries which interferes with the free circulation of the blood. Gradually these changes may extend to the veins and the capillaries. Arteriosclerosis is more common in men than in women, especially in the younger age group.

The symptoms of arteriosclerosis vary according to the arteries involved. Generally signs of inadequate blood supply appear in the first stage. Even after light exercise there may be coldness and numbness in the feet and pain and cramps in the legs. When the arteries of the brain are involved the vessel may burst causing bleeding in the tissues of the brain. In elderly people it may also lead to a confused state of mind and diseases such as amnesia. The patient may suffer from kidney disorders and high blood pressure if arteries relating to the kidneys are involved.

The most common cause of arteriosclerosis is excessive intake of high fat diet, white sugar and refined foods which is rich in cholesterol. Other contributing causes include a sedentary style of living and also other diseases such as diabetes, obesity, malaria, rheumatism and emotional stress and tensions. Heredity factor also plays a major role in giving rise to this disease along with other factors.

Nature Cure for Arteriosclerosis: The treatment of arteriosclerosis should first commence by putting the patient on a short juice fast for about six days. All available fruit juices and fresh and raw vegetables available during the season may be taken. Green vegetable juices, lemon juice, grape fruit juice and pineapple juice are especially beneficial. A warm water enema should be administered daily during this period for cleansing the bowels.

The patient can thereafter switch to an optimum diet consisting of vegetables, fruits, nuts, grains and sprouted seeds. Vegetable oil especially olive oil, safflower oil and flax seed oil should be used regularly. Several small meals should be taken instead of one large meal.

Foods such as strong tea, strong coffee, meat, salt, refined and processed foods, sauces, hydrogenated fats and an excess of ghee, cream, butter, animal fat, pickles, white flour products and white sugar products should be avoided by the patient suffering from arteriosclerosis. He should also avoid eating food cooked in copper and aluminum utensils as toxic metals entering the body are known to be deposited on the walls of the arteries. Smoking should be strictly avoided as it constricts the arteries and aggravates the condition.

Several home remedies have also been found effective in the treatment of arteriosclerosis. One such remedy is the use of lemon peel. Being one of the richest sources of Vitamin P it strengthens the entire arterial system. The procedure is to take the peel of one or two lemons and cut them finely covered with lukewarm water and allowed to stand for about eleven hours. A teaspoonful of this preparation may be taken immediately before or after a meal or at an interval of three hours.

Another effective home remedy for arteriosclerosis is the use of parsley. It contains the vital nutrients necessary for maintaining a healthy condition of the arterial system and capillaries. It can be taken in the form of a drink by simmering it gently in water for a few minutes and partaking several times daily.

Beet juice has also been found to be beneficial in arteriosclerosis. It is an excellent remedy for dissolving inorganic calcium deposits. Juices for carrot and spinach are also equally effective. These juices can be taken in combination or individually.

Along with this the patient should also resort to a daily schedule of taking outdoor exercise in fresh air. He should try to eliminate all mental stress and tensions and live a stress free life.

Thus we can say that natural and home remedies have been found to be very beneficial in the treatment and cure of arteriosclerosis and other related disorders.
