Welsh Boy Grows Taller thanks to Spine Curvature Surgery
Shaun Hughes, a boy from Wales who once need a growth spurt has made headlines thanks to the 'life-changing' operation which has seen him grow four inches taller than he was just three weeks ago.
The 'growth spurt' which ten year old Shaun Hughes received was created through a spine correction program which involved inserting around twenty-five screws into Shaun's body forcing the 92 degree spine curvature to correct itself.
The story which has been featured on websites such as Wales Online and Simply Grow Tallerand has generated fame and publicity for the Welsh schoolboy.
The operation and healing process took around four days and within two weeks Sean was feeling almost as good as he was prior to the operation.
In the past Sean has undergone five operations all of which have been to cure his height problem - a problem created by the scoliosis he was diagnosed with at the age of six.
According to Mrs Hughes: “About 80% of people have curvature for no apparent reason, it’s a growing thing but unfortunately Shaun was one of the 20% for which there was an underlying reason and Shaun was referred to the neurosurgeons.”
Sean will turn 11 next month and will be able to enjoy life as an averagely-sized schoolboy for the first time since his diagnosis.
