A Awareness Drive Is More Relevent Than The Ban...!

Eastern India:- Wherever you go ,whether it’s vegetable market or small grocery shop of this region one can see rampant use of polythene bags in different  attractive colours, shapes and sizes. You ask vendors and shopkeepers about these illegal uses, they’d argue that they’ve no option rather then use these, as the supply of polythene bags are being made to all the market clandestinely. More then that they can be found at cheaper rate then the thick ones.

If the shopkeeper, vendors and traders of these areas are to be blamed and could held guilty the reluctance and ignorance of customers is no less as majority of them just don’t care of polythene menace. They rarely hesitate to accept and demand polythene bag while purchasing anything from the local market. This clearly shows their little or no concern for the environmental hazards and degradation caused by such low grade polythene bags.

Although, the polythene bag is a banned item in India the failure of concerned authorities to put an effective ban on use of polythene bags of less than 20 Micron thicknesses is really embarrassing as this is happening despite a court order which has banned its manufacturing and use.

The authorities ,though ,have been claiming that most of the local units who were indulged in manufacturing of such bags has been shut down and more such would soon forced to close but unfortunately the supply and use of it is still on and not likely to subdue in near future until people are not aware of its hazards. It seems an awareness drive is more important and relevant than the ban.
