Monster unemployment

Our leaders, ministers and politicians are not conscious of the dreadful dangers of unemployment stalking the country like a merciless monster and gripping its hold tighter and tighter the necks of our millions of young, promising and brilliant youth who see no future and are facing a blind wall.

It is ironical that no political party has shown any genuine interest in the amelioration of the fate of the unemployed, both of the upper and the lower sections of society. Simply to uplift the Harijans and the backward class does not answer the purpose. Both upper as well as lower class need food, clothing and shelter. Why do not our leaders plan for total employment? Why do not we make Right to work for everybody a constitutional necessity for the government of India?

Neither communist nor democratic

The truth is that Govt. is neither communist nor democratic. If we are a socialist welfare state, let us give jobs to everybody as in Russia, China and other communist countries. If we are democratic country, then let us give unemployment pensions to the employed youth as in USA and UK, and old age pensions to the old people. When it comes to helping the unemployed, India is neither socialist nor democratic but has the disadvantages of the advantages of neither. Today million of youth in India will prefer food without freedom to freedom without food.

Babu Jagjivan Ram’s promise to provide at least one job to every family does not serve the purpose. Gone are the days when one number of t he family could support the whole family. Now the whole family cannot support a single unemployed member of the family. Everybody in the family must work and earn his wherewithal to fend for him or herself.

Jagjivan Ram’s pledge to provide at least one bread-winner to every family rather reveals the dreadful that millions of families in India do not have even one bread-earner. How do they manage to eke out their lives? The very idea of entire families unemployed is dreadful but it is a stern, stark reality, which cannot be removed by sweeping it under the carpet.
