Rajasthan is the most colorful and authentically Indian state in the country



 This state is a land of contrasts-of bitter cold and searing heat of lush wheat fields and arid desert of an impoverished peasantry and a proud. Rajasthan is the most colorful and authentically Indian state in the country. 


 


Stretching like a rough and irregular rhombus, it between lies the Yamuna River in East Pakistan in the west.


 


Then there is the fanciful and unique architecture of Hawa Mahal, Jaipur, and Deeg, near Bharatpur.


The victory tower at Chitorgarh, by Rana Kumbha, is a living monument to the greatness of Rajathan’s architecture. Then there is the fort of Ranthambhor, near Sawai Madhopur.  


 


Similar ancient historical remains have been discovered at


a)      Rairh and Nagar - Tonk district


b)      Sambhar – Jaipur district


c)      Nagari- Chittor ditrict


d)     Bhainmal Jalore district


 


Architectural finds, temples and pillars, some with inscriptions, sculptures and terracotta discovered at several important sites have helped historians in filling the gaps in Rajasthan’s history. Among these, mention may be made of the system of town planning   


Discovered at Kalibangn and Ahar; sun-baked brick walls at Jodhpur (near Kotputli) a circular brick temple at Bairath, believed to belong to the third centaury B.C., and remains of similar buildings dating from the beginning of the Christian era  found at Rairh, Sambhar, Nagar and Bhinmal. Somewhat later, temples of the Gupta period were located at Dara Mukandara (in Jawahar district), Nagri (in Chittogarh district) and Mandar (in Jodhpur district).
