7-Year-Old Escapes Abusive Parent-Leads Police To Two Sibling Corpses In Basement
A starving child beaten and bruised was found wandering on a gravel road in Lusby, Md., a town 50 miles south of Washington D.C. She led authorities to a gruesome find in a basement freezer containing the frozen corpses of two of the 7-year-olds sisters. The adoptive mother, Renee Bowman told authorities that she killed the girls who were once her foster children. The girls found in the freezer were 9 and 11 years old. It is believed she kept the bodies in the freezer for 7 months. The girl was found Friday night after she went knocking on doors. Open sores and lesions on her buttocks and thighs prompted an abuse investigation Saturday that led the police to the remains of the children in Bowman’s basement. The girl had escaped by jumping from a window on the second floor. Bowman mentioned that she had brought the freezer to Lusby after she moved from Rockville in February. Rockville is approximately 60 miles away. Maryland Department of Human Resources was planning to petition the court today to gain custody of the girl that was not biologically related to the two dead children. The child has been hospitalized. Bowman has not been charged in the deaths yet, but she has been charged with first –degree child abuse and ordered held without bail. An autopsy will be performed to identify the children when the thaw of the freezer is complete. Police are investigating the deaths as a homicide.
