June 08, 2008 Blog is a portmanteau word of “Web Log”. Blog is a place where internet users put there writings for other internet users to read and comment on it. It is a kind of personal diary but the mixture of personal experience, thoughts and the first hand information you got. But it is more formal than personal writing and less formal than journalistic or academic writing. The activity of Blog is called “Blogging” and the person who does blogging is called “Blogger”. Bogging is now very popular all over the world. Though blogs are totally personal opinion but it becomes one of the impotent sources of news. It actually enhances the idea of citizen journalism and empowering the people. The way of finding news and ideas from grass root level is Blog. The blogger gets opinion on his or her writing by the comments and views from other people. In the past without the journalist and intellectuals general people have no access to put their ideas in news paper or any other medium but after the invention of Blog people from different segment can communicate their thought through Blogs. The role of the blog is probably best expressed by Stefan Glanzer, one of the founders of blogging system 20six: 'If you want to reach millions you book an ad on TV and if you want to reach one person you use e-mail or the telephone. But if you want to reach between 5 and 500 people a blog is the ideal tool to communicate.'(Microsoft ® Encarta ® 2007). By the blog the hidden and behind news and ideas are raveling in front of the society. As a result people become more aware and more ideal. So the role of journalists has changed they are now working as a “watch tower” rather than a “watch dog”.
