Civil Defence Kashmir organises Valedictory function
Ganderbal/Srinagar, March 16 (Scoop News) - Civil Defence Organization in collaboration with Divisional Disaster Management Authority Kashmir organised five day basic civil defence and disaster preparedness training programme at New Dreamland Higher Secondary School, Beehama, Ganderbal.
Officer on Special Duty (OSD) Aamir Ali said that the Chief Guest on the valedictory function was M.A. Shunthu, Addl. District Development Commissioner, Ganderbal. Present on the occasion were Rafiq Ahmed, Deputy Controller, Civil Defence, Dr G.M. Dar, Associate Professor, Disaster Management J&K IMPA, Aamir Ali, OSD with Div Com Kashmir & Dy. Chief Warden, Bashir Ahmed Shah, Chairman, New Dreamland School, Muzaffar Ahmed Trambu, District Sports Officer, Shabir Ahmed Khan, ASI (M), C.O. 5RR and Shamsuddin Information Officer.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Guest Shunthu appreciated Civil Defence for training the community members especially the youth and students, to handle any emergencies including disasters. He said that community members are always the first responders and urged the youth to come forward and voluntarily participate in such training programmes. Deputy Controller informed the students about the role of civil defence in disaster preparedness and management. He encouraged the children to come forward and join civil defence for the sake of their own safety and that of their relatives and neighbors. Dr. Dar made the students aware the vulnerability of the State and urged them to disseminate the information gained, with their friends. Aamir Ali said that since the student community is the most vulnerable during any disasters, therefore there is need to train them. He implored the students to upgrade their life saving skills and assist the people during emergencies. Abdul Gaffar Chief Trainer CD taught the students about various search and rescue methods. Mohammed Hussain taught the students about first aid and Shakeel Ahmed explained about fire fighting. Administrative Officer welcomed the guests and Vice principal presented vote of thanks.
Later a mock drill was held, in which the students actively participated and were practically demonstrated about search and rescue methods and usage of fire extinguishers. About 150 students and teachers participated in the training programme, while the whole school participated in the mock drill. Certificates of participation were distributed amongst the participants.
