Congress Govt’s Policies Anti-farmer:JK BJP

Jammu, May 04 (Scoop News) – In every 30 minutes, one farmer commits suicide in India. It is due to the anti-farmer policies of Congress led UPA government at the centre. This was stated by BJP Kissan Morcha National Secretary and Morcha’s J&K Prabhari Sukhminderpal Singh Grewal while addressing media persons at party headquarters on Friday.

Grewal said, “A farmer is very demoralized man today with rising input costs and hardly any returns”. “Farmers are sometimes badly hit by natural calamites like droughts, floods and hailstorms which results in huge losses to their crops and moreover government’s reluctant approach to the same has been forcing them to commit suicide as they feel helpless and dejected”, he stated.

Reiterating BJP Kissan Morcha’s demand for implementation of M.S. Swaminathan Commission report, he said that the suggestions putforth by him, if implemented,  will end the miseries of the farmers across the country.

Asserting that BJP kissan Morcha has been fighting for the rights of the farmers in India through different democratic means on roads and on the floor of the Parliament, Grewal assured the farmers that BJP Kissan Morcha will continue to fight for them.

Mentioning a letter to Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh written by Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar, Grewal said that the central government’s policies were anti-farmers and the present MSP calculating system is incapable of bailing out farmers from the serious economic crises they are reeling under. “Pawar’s  letter echoes the issue the BJP kissan Morcha had been raising”, he claimed, adding that Pawar had vehemently condemned the ban imposed on export of cotton and sugar in the country and termed the decision as anti-farmer.

“According to the letter, the prices of cotton have tumbled and sugar is not being exported despite a decision taken in March. It is worrisome as farmers are not getting Rs 8000 crores pending towards sugarcane crushing mills, Grewal maintained.

Keeping in view anti-farmer polices of the Central Govt and its incapability to take effective steps to promote farmers of India, Grewal announced that Kissan Morcha under its National President Om Prakash Dhankad will hold two-days ‘Kissan Sansad’ in Delhi on May 12-13. He disclosed this Kissan Parliament will dicuss the challenges being faced by the farming sector, marketing insecurities, poor disaster management and increasing prices etc. He mentioned that Kissan Parliament had been necessitated because the Govt had turned a deaf ear to their demand of convening a special session for discussing the farmers’ issue.  BJP National President Nitin Gadkari, Leader of Oposition in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj,  Leader of Oposition in Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley,  BJP ruled States Chief Ministers and Deputy Chief Ministers and former Chairman of the Farmers Commission M S Swaminathan, journalist P Sainath  have been  invited in thje scheduled Kissan Sansad.

BJP Kissan Morcha State president Karan Singh, BJP Press Secretary Balbir Ram, Kissan Morcha State General Secretary Capt (Retd) Kasturi Lal Sharma, Morcha State Treasurer Jagdish Raj Pandey and Kissan Morcha Akhnoor District president Pishori Lal were also present in the press conference
