J&K NCC R-Day Contingent calls on Governor
Jammu, December 24 (Scoop News) –The Jammu and Kashmir NCC Contingent, comprising 97 boy and girl Cadets, who would be representing the State, at the Republic Day NCC Camp at New Delhi, called on N. N. Vohra, Governor, at Raj Bhavan here this evening. These Cadets are proceeding to the national capital on 29th December.
Speaking on the occasion, the Governor said that he was happy to learn that, as compared to the position in the past years, this year’s NCC contingent comprises a sizeable number of Cadets from the Ladakh region. Referring to his interactions with the Cadets during two National Integration Camps, organized by J&K NCC Directorate at Leh and Srinagar in the past years, and as well as on several other occasions, he observed that such Camps provide an excellent opportunity to the youth from all over the country to attend Camps in distant places, meet the local people and get to know their customs, traditions and cultures. Such exposures contribute to cultural integration and better understandings among people from different parts of our large country. The Governor said that NCC plays an important role in inculcating discipline among the youth and prepares them to play a responsible role in society. He said that the J&K NCC Contingents for the RD Camp have been bringing laurels in the past and hoped that they will bring laurels this time again and make a notable presentation in the RD Parade.
The Governor gave away an amount of Rs. 75,000 as financial support to the J&K NCC Directorate to meet expenditure towards various activities during the Republic Day Camp at
Mrs. Usha Vohra, First Lady, was present on the occasion.
Brigadier Thomas George, Deputy Director General, NCC, J&K Directorate, in his welcome address, thanked the Governor and the First Lady for blessing the Cadets before their departure for
R. K. Goyal, Principal Secretary to the Governor was present on the occasion.
The NCC Contingent presented a brief cultural programme on this occasion.
