JK Govt. lacks will to hold ULB elections :BJP

Jammu, April 07 (Scoop News) -     The NC-Congress coalition government in the state lacks will to hold elections to Urban Local Bodies and the same is clear from the reports that no serious exercise has been undertaken by the concerned departments. This was alleged by BJP State General Secretaries Satish Sharma and Sat Sharma (C.A.) while reacting to apprehensions of not conducting these polls in near future.

Both Satish Sharma and Sat Sharma (C.A.) said that in the recently concluded assembly session, it was declared by the state government through Minister of State for Housing and urban development that elections to the Urban Local Bodies will be completed by April end.  With the assembly sesion now over, it is being said that due to non completion of related exercises and formalities, these elections seems not to see day light in next few months.

The BJP State General Secretaries said that lack of will on part of the government and lack of co-ordination among the concerned departments is the root cause of delaying the elections of ULBs again and again. It was in the year 2005 that these elections were held after 23 years and during the five year tenure of these bodies under elected representatives, there was a wave of development in different localities in every ward and people to great extent were feeling satisfied with the working of their corporators.Unfortunately, with the completion of five year term of ULBs, elections have not been held for the last two years despite the fact that repeated asuramnces from the state government has been made in public as well as on the floor of the house.

Satish Sharma and Sat Sharma (C.A.) said that in a democracy it becomes the prime duty of every government to ensure that 3-tier system is made to flourish and democracy strengthened but in Jammu and Kashmir, some elements in the government do not want the people at grassroots level to become party in decision making in their local matters of development etc. They said that the state government should take immediate steps to ensure that these elections are not delayed any more. Strict instructions should be issued to all the concerned department to work rpound the clock and hold ULB elections as announced on the flooe of the house on April 4.
