JK Minister calls on Union Petroleum Minister



New Delhi,October 15(Scoop News) -   Minister for Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CA&PD), Transport  Qamar Ali Akhoon called on Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas  Jaipaul Reddy and appraised him about the problems that had arisen in the State after announcing cap on subsidized LPG gas being provided by various Oil Companies to the people of Jammu and Kashmir.


The Minister gave a detailed brief to  Reddy about the geographical and topographical conditions, severe lengthy winter season by which frequent closure of JammuSrinagar national high ways occurs besides closure of Srinagar-Kargil-Leh national highway and unbearable chilly days in the State due to which the people of the State are already facing tremendous hardships.


 Akhoon informed  Reddy that capping on LPG shall add miseries to the people of the state.


The Minister informed  Reddy that the State Legislature in its recently concluded autumn session has passed unanimously a resolution for enhancing the cap on LPG cylinders in respect of Jammu and Kashmir.


 Akhoon strongly pleaded reviewing the policy and reconsidering the procedure adopted by various Oil Companies in respect of Jammu and Kashmir State.


 Akhoon also pleaded for easing the procedure for obtaining fresh LPG connection, establishment of more distribution centre’s and  providing of sufficient quantity of LPG in the State in view of ensuing winter season.


The Minister requested  Reddy that the Oil Companies be directed to engage additional manpower at the outletsso that the rush of the consumers is dealt with accordingly without any inconvenience. He also pleaded for establishment of additional counters for receipt of Know Your Costumer (KYC) forms and a separate common facility centre be established in capital cities of Jammu and Srinagar for the convenience of the people.


Responding to the demands the Union Minister said that the procedure for receiving the documents and other related works shall be sorted out in consultation with the Oil Companies. However, he said the role back of the policy, enhancement on subsidized cylinders and any other special concession in respect of the Jammu and Kashmir State within the jurisdiction of the Prime Minister.
