Load Shedding

Unusually long hours of load shedding are witnessed in Kohat district from last one week, women lead by Mrs. Neelam Hamid came out on University road to protest against WAPDA authorities responsible for stoppage of electricity in hot summer month for unusually long hours, university road was blocked by women protestors and after assurances rendered by SDO WAPDA Kohat protesting women were dispersed peacefully.

A senior official of WAPDA on condition of anonymity has said that due to electricity theft and corrupt practices of meter readers of WAPDA department are responsible for present state of affairs, consumers directly pay 200/rs to each meter reader to avoid huge bills of electricity, to hide this theft WAPDA authorities resort to load shedding of electricity for long hours, a consumer which refuse to make a direct deal with meter readers receives huge bills and usually is overcharged for his honesty.

‘Consumers of WAPDA are victim of high electricity rates, no where else in the world electricity is sold on such a high rates to consumers, Pakistan where incomes are quite low and unemployment ratio is quite high majority of WAPDA consumers are compelled to make direct deals with meter readers or to through anchors on electricity wires of WAPDA to get free electricity by stealing it through anchor connected wires,’ a sources has said.
