Mufti, Mehbooba greet people on eve of Maha Shivratri

Jammu, February 18 (Scoop News) – Patron of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Mufti Mohammed Sayeed and president of PDP Ms Mehbooba Mufti have greeted the people on the auspicious occasion of Maha Shivratri, which is celebrated by Kashmiri Pandits as Hairath.

In their message of on the eve of this auspicious occasion, PDP patron and president said that this festival symbolizes the values of piety, devotion, brotherhood and communal harmony- which are the hallmark of our great composite cultural ethos. They hoped that the festival would usher in a new era of peace and prosperity in the state of Jammu and Kashmir.

Extending their greetings to the people on the eve of Maha Shivratri, PDP leaders said that Kashmir had remained a seat of Shaivism for centuries and the philosophy had contributed in a big way to the multicultural ethos of the Valley.

PDP leaders said that Jammu and Kashmir has a rich tradition of celebrating festivals in amity, brotherhood and harmony. They said Hairath also symbolizes traditional bonds of love and brotherhood between different communities of living in Kashmir Valley. They said that the Pandit community is an important component of the Kashmiri’s composite culture and hoped that the festival will strengthen the brotherhood and communal harmony among various sections of the society.

Among other leaders who extended their greetings include General Secretary Mohammed Dilawar Mir, Deputy Speaker Mohammed Sartaj Madni, Ab Rehman Veeri MLA, Mohd Khalil Bandh, Syed BAshir Ahmed, Peerzada Mansoor Hussain and others.
