Roku Player and Microsoft Xbox offer Netflix TV
Microsoft unveiled a plan to team up with the online movie store Netflix to provide over 10,000 movie titles that users can stream online to their Xbox consoles and TVs. This technology is the same service currently offered by Roku.
After purchasing at $100 converter box from Roku, Netflix subscribers will have OnDemand access to thousands of movies and TV shows on their TVs.
Microsoft announced plans that the same service will work directly off of their Xbox 360 with an Xbox 360 Live gold membership. This means that any user with the Xbox 360 live gold membership and a subscription to Netflix will have access to the same thousands of movies and TV shows.
Although the idea of TV-through-internet has surfaced before with Apple TV, The Roku Netflix Player and Xbox 360 services are the first to offer completely streaming media. There are no downloads or expiration dates like Apple TV, nor do users have to pay-per-view like Apple TV.
The Roku Netflix Player could be the link between streaming video on the Internet and on TV that movie lovers have been looking for.
