Sakina asks social welfare dept to inculcate the verve of social service
Sunderbani/Jammu, January 01(Scoop News) – J&K Minister for Social Welfare, Ms Sakina Itoo has asked the functionaries of the social welfare department to inculcate the verve of social service and said that selfless service to society is the best worship.
The Minister was speaking at an awareness camp, after distributing pension cheques worth Rs. 6 lakh among 431 beneficiaries of Rajouri district, under different schemes, here today. She also handed over appointment orders to 15 ladies also.
Among others, Vice Chairman, Pahari Speaking Board, Mushtaq Ahmad Bukhari, Vice Chairman, Kisan Development Board, Rashpal Singh, MLA, s, Bimla Luthra, Deputy Commissioner, Rajouri G.A.Khawaja, Director Social Welfare, Jammu Mehmood Rana and senior officers of social welfare department were present on the occasion.
The Minister said the purpose of holding such awareness camps is to sensitize people, living in rural and hilly areas, about the welfare schemes being run by the department. She said earlier such camps have been organized in Kashmir also, adding the need is to organize such camps in other parts of the
Ms Sakina said that Government is paying old age pension to 3.50 lakh persons while 50,000 more application is waiting for approval. She asked the officers of the department to follow strictly the norms fixed by the Centre, adding BPL category is the most deserving to avail the benefit of these schemes. He directed officers to furnish the list of all BPL population of the district so that matter could be taken up with the Centre accordingly for approval of pension.
The Minister said that engagement of 3500 Anganwari workers and helpers is under progress, while case for opening of more 6500 centre has been forwarded to the Central Government for approval.
Emphasizing for maintaining transparency at all levels, the Minister said that accountability would be enforce. She asked officers to ensure that all beneficiaries get their pension in time at or near their residential places. She said that matter has also been taken up with Banking Authorities for fixing a particular day for disbursement among the beneficiaries of social welfare department.
Referring to the deweeding process, the Minister instructed the officers to start the deweeding process so that other deserving persons could be accommodate.
The Minister said that pension under several schemes has been enhanced , adding the Anganwari workers and helpers would be absorbed on permanent establishment of the department in a phased manner but strictly on seniority basis.
She asked officers to ensure procurement of standard nutrition items being fed to the children at Anganwari centres and take proper care of the children in their nutrias and education.
Regarding the construction of office complex for social welfare department the Minister directed the Deputy Commissioner to identify a piece of land at Rajouri, Sunderbani and other tehsils so that funds for construction would be arranged accordingly.
Bukhari , Rashpal and s Luthra also spoke on the occasion and highlighted policies and programmes of the coalition government.
