Sakina describes education as a potent tool for socio-economic transformation of downtrodden
Speaking at an annual day function of Pahari Hostel Jammu, the Minister said that all the students of Pahari community of the State have been brought under the ambit of scholarships thus boosting their morale for excelling in education. She asked the youth to avail benefit of welfare schemes launched by the Government in the social welfare sector.
Ms Sakina asked the students to persue their studies with utmost zeal and devotion to bring laurels in every field of life, which, she said is must to develop lot of the community.
The Minister stressed upon the teaching community to impart quality education to the students, besides equipping them with ethical values as they are the future builders of the nation.
She said that the matter regarding Schedule Tribe status to Pahari speaking people have already been taken up with the Centre and the Union Ministry for Tribal Affairs have assured that this vital issue would be taken up with the Prime Minister soon.
Later, the Minister released two books titled “ Adab Te Adeeb” and “ Phulan ni Changer” written by Dr. Abdul Huq Naeemi and Mohammad Khalil Jowher respectively and published by State Advisory Board for Development of Pahari Speaking People.
Earlier, the Minister inaugurated a computer lab at the Hostel.
Vice Chairman , Pahari Advisory Board, Syed Mushtaq Ahmad Bukhari , Vice Chairman, Kissan Board, Rashpal Singh, MLA, Poonch, Aijaz Ahmad Jan, MLC, Mohammad Rasheed Qureshi, MLC, Jahangir Hussain Mir, former Minister, Mirza Abdul Rasheed and Secretary Cultural Academy, Dr. Zafer Manhas also spoke on the occasion.
Meanwhile Ms. Sakina Itoo called on the Union Minister for Tribal Affairs Kanti Lal Bhoria yesterday and discussed several issues related to the Social Welfare Department. The implementation of Tribal Development Programme Plan (TDP) in
Ms Itoo pleaded for timely release of funds for various components of Tribal Plan, besides other schemes meant for the welfare of Tribal population. She said that timely release of funds will enable the State to implement the schemes effectively and accrue the desired results. She also demanded relaxation in criteria for scholarships to ST students on the plea that the students of the community, in absence of proper facilities, cannot compete with the students of general category.
Bhoria assured the Minister that Tribal Affairs Ministry would extend all possible help to the State to ensure effective implementation of various tribal welfare schemes for the overall betterment and development of tribal community in the State. The Union Minister also assured Ms Itoo that the State would be provided due share in the development process initiated for upliftment of economically weaker sections in the country.
