Srinagar,   September 06 (Scoop News) –  Equating sports activities as an important parameter for overall development of personality the Minister of Rural Development, Panchayati Raj, Law Justice and Parliamentary Affaris, has said that it is the endeavor of the government to promote the sports related activities and build requisite infrastructure for the purpose.

The Minister was speaking at the inaugural function of 3-day 19th National Thangtha championship organized by Thangtha Federation of India at Sher-i-Kashmir Indoor Stadium Srinagar.

Ex-Mayor Srinagar Municipal Corporation Salman Sagar and other prominent sports person were present on the occasion.

 Sagar said that such events are necessary for providing the much needed exposure to the youth of the State, so that they can effectively compete at National and International levels and bring laurels to the State.

The Minister said that the youth are the future of the State and the need of the hour is to channelize their energies as well as talent in a proper and systematic manner so that they can effectively contribute their bit in Nation building. He said that the youth also have to understand that they should devote their time in pursuing education and extracurricular activities especially the sports which would ultimately result in making them a role model in the society.

    Nissar Geelani President Thangtha Association of Jammu and Kashmir presented the introductory remarks and gave an overview of the championship in which teams from 23 states of the country are participating.

The Minister later visited Pandach Ganderbal and took stock of the developmental works initiated there. He was accompanied by District Development Commissioner, Ganderbal  Showkat Ahmed Mir, Director Rural Development Kashmir, Mir Altaf Ahmed, Additional District Development Commissioner, Ganderbal and other senior Officers of the district.

 While interacting with the people, the Minister said that the government has already put in place a mechanism for ensuring sustained development of all the three regions of the state. He said various flagship schemes have also be introduced for uplifting the socio economic profile  of the people especially those living in rural and far flung areas.

Referring to the initiatives undertaken by the government for ensuring peace in the State, the Minister said that the people should understand the importance peaceful environs for ensuring sustained development and carrying on other related activities. He said that the record number of the tourists have visited the State which would go a long way in uplifting the economy besides providing the much needed employment opportunities in future also.

The Minister later, directed the officers to ensure that the renovation of the Shrine of Syed Fazal Sahab is undertaken as early as possible.
