U.S.President reverses ban on Overseas Funding for Abortions

The U.S.President Barak Obama on Friday by an Executive Order reversed the eight year old ban on funding to the Family Planning organizations which carry out or aid abortions overseas. With the restrictions gone, more health care entities would be eligible for receiving US funds for Family Planning which in effect would reach a bigger pool of Women.

Earlier, the rule named ‘global gag rule’ cut off the US funding to overseas ‘Family Planning Clinics’ which provide abortion services. This was first introduced by the Republican President, Ronald Ragan in 1984 which was subsequently overturned by Democrats but again reintroduced by the last Republican President , George W.Bush.

While the anti-abortion and conservative groups had condemned Obama for the move, it has been welcomed by the Liberal Groups.
