Good Friday-the greatest commandment
We should place all our problems before God in the form of our prayers. This will not only lighten our heart but also give us the self confidence which we need.
God, our heaven Father, looks upon His children with love and tender concern. He wants us to speak to Him so that we become aware of His presence. When we know that God is near and we are confidence that His will is the best, it is then that we can face our difficulties as His challenge to us with optimism and courage.
Jesus Christ was born about two thousand years ago. In this lifetime he did a lot of good things. He worked a number of miracles. He healed diseased people. He had some followers. He had some enemies also. He taught the people by telling them simple stories.
Jesus was born among the Jewish people. But his teachings are for the whole world. He is called the greatest teacher. His life was spent in the travels between Galilee and Jerusalem. At that time Romans ruled those lands.
One day, a teacher of law asked Jesus, `lord, which is the greatest commandment in the law?’
Jesus answered, `you must love your God. This is the most important commandment.’
Jesus then turned to the crowd and said, `the second most important commandment is you must love your neighbor as you love yourself.’
The teacher of law was surprised.
Jesus’ life was a life of love, peace and brotherhood. Unfortunately most of the Jewish people did not like him. They put Jesus to death on the cross.
Religion is not only the belief in a superman controlling power or God, entitled to obedience and worship but also the goodness that our life devoted to. Religion does not only mean to public show that we believe God. It is sufficient to pray to God with a mind full of vices of all kind. We should walk on the path of virtue and pray to God to give us courage so that we keep on being virtuous in our life. This is the essence of religion.
