Looking well locations –Hill and High Hills



 The Hills and Dales that surround Ooty are some of the most beautiful and, from several spots in and near Ooty; nature lovers can feast their eyes on the beauty that lies spread below and around them in abundant generosity.


 


Dodda Betta 2637 meters, the highest peak in the Nilgiris, is at eastern extremity of Ooty. Motor able roads to the peak, from where, on a clear day, a panoramic view can be had, not only of Ooty but also of Coonoor, Wellington Kundah, the distant plains of Coimbatore and the Mysore plateau.


 


Elk Hill an hour’s walk from the Ooty market, commands an excellent view of Ooty and the neighboring Lovedale valley. The temple of Lord Subrammanyam here is an added attraction.


 


Valley View, on the road to Coonoor, overlooks the charming Ketti Valley with its clusters of tiny villages. The view also spans the tea estates of Ooty, the plans of Coimbatore and the Mysore Plateau.  


Snowden Peak 2677 meters on the Kotagiri Road also offers a panoramic view of Mysore.


 


Wenlock Downs


The 8100 ha (20, 0000 acres) of undulating landscape that comprise the Downs are endowed with extraordinary scenic beauty. The Gymkhana Club, the Government Sheep Farm and the Hindustan Photo Films Company have all chosen to nestle amidst the picturesque Downs. Golf, hunting and endless hours of enjoyable walking are what the Downs have to offer.
