Madhya Pradesh has a great tradition in music and literature
Great exponents of Indian music, such as Vikramaditya, Nayak Gopal, Nayak Bhishu, Bhanu, Bajiu, Raja Man Singh, Tansen, Bazbahadur and Rupmati, also belong to this state. The creative tradition has been continued in this century by such giants of North Indian mugic as the late Ustad Allauddin Khan, Shri Krishnarao shankar Pandit, Kumar Gandharva and Ustad Ali Akbar Khan.
Great Hindi writers
Madhya Pradesh has a great tradition in literature also. Kalidas belonged to this region. His works and those of Varahmihir, Bhavabhuti and others have earned for Indian poetry an enviable place in the history of world literature. The tradition has continuedunbroken through the ages and, in more recent times, Madhya Pradesh has produced great Hindi writers like Keshavdas, Bihari, Kumbhandas, Haridas Swami and Chhatrasal.
The tenuous bond of one language Hindi, which is spoken differently in different regions, is no common tie. There is nothing common between the rugged terrains of the Vindhya region with its workless people, and the beautiful landscape of Bastar and its colorful people with a zest for life their own all.
The people of Madhya Pradesh have learnt to live the state’s poverty, regionalism and feudalism. A lethargy bordering on physical inertia appears to have gripped the people.
