Makati explosion remains a jigsaw puzzle
The findings by an international terrorism expert from Europe that the recent bombing in Glorietta Makati City a few months back was purely accident caused by a faulty wirings in the power plant room underground. The local police probers had issued the same pronouncements that indeed it was a gas leak that could have been the primary cause of the explosion that killed several people who were just having some meals at the basement Chinese restaurant.
Actually, there were clashes of opinions between the Ayala Group and the police investigators. Officials of the former have strongly indicated that the explosion was not caused by a gas leak nor faulty electrical wirings, but an improvised bomb planted by a terrorist group, who wanted to sow chaos and destruction in the country's commercial district. Makati City mayor Jejomar Binay has stuck to his earlier suspicion that the explosion was indeed caused by a planted bomb, which the police did not buy based on their evaluation of the evidences gathered in and around the area of the explosion.
Now, with the new assessments made by some European experts, it turned out that they are suspecting that the explosion was deliberately done. An international terrorism expert compared the Makati bombing to that of an explosion that sank an inter-island ship, killing several people on board. Then, the Abu Sayyaf group claimed responsibility on the explosion.
The question now lies as to whether the police investigators have yet to laid down their cards as to what really happened, knowing fully well that they are under instructions from higher ups as to what to do with the on-going investigation. Was it politically motivated? Nobody knows for sure. But there are angles when some sectors could not help but think that it could be possible. At this time, everybody is puzzled as to the truth behind the Makati bombing. If indeed, it was intentional, what for? After all, the terrorist group has not made any forcible demands to extort money from the Ayala Group of Companies. Even at this point, this is a jigsaw puzzle that remains to be unlocked. The real score now is between the findings of the local police and the international terrorism experts who dipped their hands on the controversy. At this time, patience is all that is needed and hopefully, the truth will come out soon.
