Remy Ma Sentenced to Eight Years

 Remy Ma, born Remy Smith, was sentenced today to eight years in jail. According to E! Online, the rapper had been found guilty of assault, weapons possession and attempted coercion, she was facing a maximum sentence of 25 years.

As soon as she heard the sentence, Remy Ma burst into tears while her husband-to-be and rapper Papoose waited to step out of the court room to voice his rage.

Last summer, the rapper shot Makeda Barnes-Joseph in the gut over a $3000 dispute. Prosecutors depicted her as a hard-core rapper with a violent past, arguing that this shooting just an extra step in her violent behavior. On her final stand, Remy Ma pleaded to the judge that this was all an accident and that the judge should consider her 7 year old son before sentencing her.

Remy Ma's lawyer, Ivan Fisher, has already announced that they will appeal the decision especially because, under state law, her sentence makes her does not give her access to parole.
