Shershah’s tomb at Sasaram is wonderful monument

 Farid, an Afghan leader deafted Humayun at Kanauj and assumed the name Shershah sur and ascended the throne in Delhi.

Shershah was a benevolent ruler who administered his territory well. He not only sought the advice of his officers from time to time but traveled widely to know the conditions of the administration. The empire was divided into Sarkars (provinces) and Sarkars into Parganas. A pargana was looked after by a Shekdar and an Amin, the former looking after law and order and latter after revenue matters. If a crime was committed in a village, he punished the whole village and thus checked the crime rate. The thieves and evaders of tax were severely punished. 

He measured land with a uniform method and fixed 1/3 of the produce of the land as revenue. `Patta’ was a document given to the cultivator to protect his interest. An officer called Todar Mull helped in tjis settlement. This became the guiding principle to Akbar later. He improved the old highways and laid new ones to improve trade and commerce. He founded shelters called `Sarais’ along the highways to help travelers. He was tolerant towards other religions. He was a great builder and his tomb at Sasaram is wonderful monument.
