What is the concept of Regionalism in sociology



Regionalism can be defined as a multi-dimensional phenonmenon in terms of its components like geographical,historico-cultural ,economic,politico-administrative and pyschic.It has both positive and negative dimension.In positive term regionalism embodies quest for self-identity and self-fulfilment on the part of the people of an area.In negative terms,regionalism reflects a psyche of relative deprivation on the part of people of an area not always viable in terms of rational economic analyasis.It is also believed that deprivation is delibrately inflicted by the powers that leads to acuteness of feeling on those who carry the psyche of deprivation.The factor of geographical boundaries to which the people of an area usually relate their quest of a regional identity also differentiates in degree if not in kind.
