CPB Urges for Effective Measures to face the impact of global Financial Crisis in Bangladesh

The Communist Party of Bangladesh has urged the government to take effective measures to resolve the impact of global financial crisis in Bangladesh. The CPB in its two days long presidium meeting on 1st February at its central office has expressed deep concern over this crisis and said that the crisis of global capitalism has created serious uncertainty for the world community. The impact of that crisis has already attacked our country’s economy. The jute, leather and other industrial sectors are still facing very tough situation. 25 thousand labors in jute sector are going to lose their job. So it is very urgent for the government to take appropriate planning and effective steps to face the ongoing crisis. The CPB in its meeting also said that the government will not be able to save the country from this global recession if it still follow wrong traditional path of wholesale privatization, so called free market and neo liberal economy, which have already been proved to be a total failure in practice. The Govt. should avoid the policy of ‘Market Fundamentalism’ and design appropriate state intervention packages to save the country’s industrial sector, increase production, enhance exports, resolve unemployment problem and control the price hike of essentials. The CPB also demanded to the govt. to pass resolution in the Parliament to try the war criminals. The Party expressed its positive remarks regarding the government initiatives which had already been taken to try the war criminals. They said the trial of war criminals will be falling into the trap of uncertainty and delay if it is referred to any International Tribunal or to the UN. It is very much possible to try the war criminals in Bangladesh under existing national law of ‘International War Crime Tribunal Act 1973’. Expressing serious concern over the recent activities of US imperialism, IMF and its allies in this region, the CPB in another resolution said that they have become more desperate to establish their ultimate hegemony in this region. That is why they are pressing country’s newly elected government to sign the TIFA agreement and lease the oil-gas block and other national resources to their multi national companies. The party called upon the countrymen to remain alert regarding this imperialist policy. The CPB demanded immediate and exemplary actions against the violence, anarchy and encroachments by the anti-social elements occurred after the general election. The CPB said, it is necessary for the government to try the criminals to maintain law and order in a non partisan manner.
