Discrimination against Ladakhis and Jammuites : LPT

Jammu, February 26 (Scoop News) -     It is not the Jammu and Jammuites but Ladakh and Ladakhis too, who have been discriminated by the successive governments in Jammu and Kashmir as well as those at the centre in all matters and at all levels. This was alleged by Ladakh Phanday Tsogspa (LPT) Convenor Dr. Anil Kumar, while addressing a press conference at Jammu on Sunday alongwith Ladakh Culture & Tradition Preserve League Member Jamyang Tsering Namgail, Social activists Tsering Norphel, Dorjey Gyaltson, Vijay Tsering and Mannu Mittal.

Dr. Anil Kumar said that during the last 64 years, all the governments in the state have given step-motherly treatment to Ladakh and its population. Kashmir still remains first choice of every government in the state and every one in the government is concentrating on diverting funds for Kashmir, bringing additional funds from centre and allocating more development projects for valley. It is not the state but the union government too which have been giving preferential treatment to Kashmir.

He said that today even after fifty years of war with China, November 14, 1962 Unanimous Resolution of Indian Parliament pledging to take back more than 38,000 square kilometers of Indian land forcefully occupied by China has not been implemented. Not only this, China is also asking for 90,000 square kilometers of more land to be handed over to it on the plea that it belongs to them. China has been increasing its strength at the borders with India by setting up number of posts near LoC in Demchok area of Ladakh and establishing connectivity within its own border area. Unfortunately Government of India has failed in establishing proper connectivity within its own territorial region i.e. Ladakh with Nemo-Padum-Darcha road connecting Zanskar valley, which is of great significant from defence point of view. China has been acting in a dictatorial manner and making repeated attempts of intrusion but our government is sleeping.

Jamyang Tsering Namgail said that while Kashmiri, which do not have its script and Nepali- which is a foreign language, have been included in 8th Schedule of the Indian Constitution, no attention has been paid towards including “Bhoti” language in the 8th Schedule despite repeated representations, appeals, protests and agitations. Isn’t it discrimination, he questioned and said that ours is the second rich language after Sanskrit in the country but still has not been recognised due to anti-Ladakh approach of the governments at the centre and in the state.

Dorjey Gyaltson said that Ladakh region is too behind in developmental activities. There is dire need of basic facilities like electricity, drinking water, proper road and communication connectivity, health care facilities, educational institutions and professional and technical institutions. He demanded that central university and college of all streams in Ladakh should be established so that the youth of Ladakh has not to go to other places for higher academic, technical and professional studies.  There are no job avenues for educated Ladakhi youth. This all reflects the mindset of the Kashnir-centric and anti-Ladakh government. He said that the people of Ladakh are brave, true nationalists and peace loving citizens. The government should not test their patience, it should immediately shed its discriminatory approach and meet the genuine long pending demands of the people of Ladakh. He also appealed the people of Ladakh not to get misled by the hollow slogans of development and remain united on the issue of discrimination with their region.
