Ghana Elections: wives on the campaign trail
The heat is on in Ghana elections. The clock is ticking. The race is fierce between the ruling NPP and the leading opposition NDC. The wives of the presidential candidates cannot afford to be left out. They have all thrown their weights behind their husbands. They seem to be motivated by the fame of being called the first lady. But conspicuously out of the race is the wife of the Dr Mahama, the candidate of the PNC. The involvement of spouses in political campaigns has seen a boost this time. Even the wives of running mates could not afford to be left out. The position of first lady, though not a political office, has proven to be one of the sweetest n Africa. In certain instances the first lady is even more powerful than the vice president. So it is not strange for these women to join the campaign trail.
