Iceland's Power Struggle

The prime minister of Iceland has written a letter to the three governors of the Central Bank of Iceland with the request that they  resign before the 5th of February.

One of the governors agreed to the request and has resigned from his post but the other two are still in their positions. Other of those two, Davíð Oddsson, hasn't even send the PM reply.

The government is passing a bill through the parliament which will revamp the Central Bank of Iceland and will make it possible to fire the two governors which are left. According to the new bill there will be one governor of the Central Bank.

It will be interesting to see how next few days will go, protesters has been talking about forming a human shield around the central bank building to hinder the two governors entry.

The new government has started quite well but there's still much to be done here in Iceland,

which is in financial ruins – thanks to the Independence Party and Davíð Oddsson which effectively deregulated the financial sector in Iceland.
