Maoist Strike in a situation of public confrontation
Kathmandu Nepal May 6, 2010: The Situation in Nepal seemed tensed and volatile with the strike taking a more aggressive form with confrontation and clashes. From early morning public confrontation with Maoist protesters made the news where situation got tensed one after the other event that happened around the nation. With the growing tension and pressure the Unified CPN Maoist has already announced to retaliate against any force that is against or further attacks them. In Kathmandu, places like Basundhara, Budhanilkantha, Golfutar, Jorpati, Kapan and Pulchowk, the locals came out on streets to protest against the strike. In Budhanilkantha, the situation took its toll that the police had to fire tear-gas shells to take control over the situation. High security alert measures were adopted to prevent confrontation of Maoist agitators and the locals. Similarly, in Jorpati, more than half a dozen people were injured after the clashes in-between the local people and the agitators. The confrontation started when the Maoist agitators vandalize the shop of the local people and in retaliation the situation was created reported the police. Denying the strike, the locals of the Pulchowk also rallied in their area where a brief clash was reported with Maoist protesters. In Birjung, a large number of Maoist supporters including two party leaders were taken in control at the Ghantaghar, Birjung by the local and the supporters of Vishwa Hindu Yuva Sangha (VHYS). After the news got out the Maoist supporters reach the place in large numbers full equipped with weapon to release their party members and the situation got tensed where the police had to use tear gas shells to control the mob. Similarly, the VHYS supporters blazed two vehicle of Maoist party in Parsa and the District Administration Office (DAO) has imposed the curfew from 1 PM. Confrontation of the Nepali Congress youth wing Tarun dal and Maoist supporters have been reported in Parbat where the Tarun Dal supporters hold a rally and vandalized Maoist party office. The police in their desperate attempt fired Tear Gas shell to control the situation. Syangja, Kaski, Sunsari Dhading also reported clashes and confrontation at different levels where the police were able to control the situation. However, the Maoist party also hold rally in different parts of the city with armed protesters where they chanted anti government slogans and displayed their numbers.
