Today is the historic March 7. In 1971 Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, former president of Bangladesh & president of the Awami League delivered a flaming and dynamic speech at Dhaka's Race Course Maidan (now Suharawardy Uddan), calling on the people to launch a significant fight for independence from Pakistani rule.

Sheak Mujib Said, “The struggle this time is for our freedom, the struggle this time is for independence” in bangle its “Ebarer sangram amader muktir sangram, ebarer sangram swadhinatar sangram”.

His bold speech inspired the people from all class of life to prepare for the Liberation War.

Bangladesh Awami League, its associate bodies and different political and socio-cultural organisations have chalked up involved programmes to mark the day.

The programmes of Bangladesh Awami League include hoisting the national and party flags at the party central office at 6:00am & and elsewhere in the country. It will be followed by placing flowers at the portrait of Bangabandhu at Bangabandhu Bhaban at 8:00am and discussions at Diploma Engineers Institute at 3:00pm.
