Cata-lan?

An era ended at Getafe today after Michael Laudrup confirmed that he would be stepping down.

For many people deep in the Barcelona institution, it is close to being a done deal with Getafe defender Daniel "Cata" Díaz is heading to Catalan country in order to replace fallen compatriot Gabriel Milito in the Boca backline. He would also be a replacement for French international Lilian Thuram.

Since his arrival from Boca Juniors this past year, Díaz established himself quickly in Michael Laudrup's backline. The Azulón were reinforced and they eventually began to make a name for themselves and were no longer "the third Madrid team". Despite not winning a trophy, they were minutes away from knocking out Bayern Munich in teh UEFA Cup and were in the Copa del Rey finals.

"He has experience and could produce right away," said Barcelona sports director Txiki Beguiristain. Díaz' move is estimated at eight million euros. Many consider it a done deal, barring any last-minute complications. If that were to happen another option on the table is that of Deportivo defender Fabricio Coloccini.
