Ice Hockey Rink at Leh, Indoor sports stadia at Jammu, Srinagar



 Jammu, India,April 12 (Scoop News) – J&K Minister for Medical Education and Sports, R. S. Chib said that Government is working on an ambitious programme of constructing outdoor and indoor stadia across the State. He said 2 indoor sports complexes one each at Jammu and Srinagar are also in the pipeline while as an Ice Hockey Rink is being developed at Leh at a cost of over Rs 7.50 crores.


Speaking at the inaugural function of Health Club “SWAASTH” at Jammu Club, Chib said that Chief Minister is taking keen interest in the development of Sports in the State and various measures have been taken to develop sports facilities and nurture the talent in this field. “You will feel the change in the sports arena in the next one or two years”, he added. 


 


Earlier Chief Minister  Omar Abdullah inaugurated Rs. 3.60 crore, Health Club “SWAASTH” at Jammu Club here. The Complex houses 12.5x25 meters roofed swimming pool of modern specifications and facilities. The temperature of swimming pool will be regulated with the solar energy throughout the year. He also inaugurated upgraded Squash Court of International standard on the occasion. The Court has been modernized and upgraded at a cost of Rs 10 lakhs.


Omar appreciated the managing Committee for upgrading and improving the infrastructure of Jammu Club and creating so many other facilities especially those of indoor sports in the Club.


He expressed the hope that the Club will further improve and expand its facilities to become one of the best Clubs in the country. He said presently Jammu Club is rated best in the State. “I hope in the coming years it will make its mark as one of the best Clubs of the country”.


, Minister for Industries  S. S. Slathia, Advisors to the Chief Minister  Mubarak Gul and  Devinder Singh Rana and Chief Secretary,  S. S. Kapur who is also Vice President of the Club were present on the occasion.


 


The Chief Secretary in his address gave the historical background of Jammu Club and said that late Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah on 13th of April 1978 laid the foundation of Jammu Club which has now grown as one of the best clubs in the Northern India. He said the construction of Health Club and Squash Court are the classic examples of PPP mode of infrastructure developed.


 Kapur said that the Election to the Managing Committee of the Club is being held on 18th of this month. He expressed the hope that the new managing committee would carry forward the agenda of developing Jammu Club as number one of the best in the country with enthusiasm.


The Chief Secretary said that during the recent couple of years there has been remarkable improvement in the facilities given by the Club to its members. “The catering unit has now improved to the best in the Jammu city”, he added.
