Jammu Riders lift JPL Tawi Cup-2012
The tournament that started on April 17 was jointly organized by Department of Youth Services and Sports, J&K State Sports Council, J&K Cricket Association in collaboration with 16 Corps Army headquarter.
The Jammu Riders won the toss, decided to bat first and set the target of 145 runs on the loss of 6 wickets before the Jammu Janbaz team.
Minister for Youth Services and Sports R S Chib was the chief Guest at the final match.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that the two regional premier leagues (Jammu Premier League and Kashmir Premier League) would be merged into a unified Jammu and Kashmir Premier League (JKPL), with an objective to prepare the promising cricketers for representing State in Indian Premier League and at National level. He said the Government has decided to make KPL and JPL as a regular feature and the trophy would be rolling one.
Chib said the tournament was the part of the programme to work for promotion of sports and develop sports as culture in state with the vision to bring J&K on international arena “Khel Se Khushali” . He said it was a major breakthrough for the promotion and development of cricket in the state, adding that it was maiden attempt to exploit the hidden talent in cricketing among youth and prepare them for play at National level. He said it was the golden opportunity to the youth to exhibit their talent.
The Minister acknowledged the help being extended by Union Minister for New and Renewal Energy Dr. Farooq Abdullah, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Union Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs Ajay Makan who are keen to develop sports infrastructure in the State.
The Minister said besides construction of playfields at block and Panchayat level under PYKKA, the government has also taken various mega projects to develop modern sports infrastructure to facilitate the youth. He described sports as best medium to channelize energies of youth in a right direction.

Referring to Phase-I of the tournament, he said 150 teams participated and played 169 matches in each district.

Later, the Minister gave away trophies and cash prizes of Rs. 5 Lakh and Rs. 3 lakh to winner and runner-up teams, respectively. Besides distribution of individual medals, he also handed over Rs. one lakh each to man of the match and man of the series Samir Khajuria and Manish Dogra.
The Minister also released the Souvenir of JPL on the occasion.

Renzushah, Deputy Commissioner, Jammu Sanjeev Verma, Director, Youth Services & Sports S. Jaipal Singh, Secretary, J&K State Sports Council, Kiran Wattal, Joint Director, Youth Services & Sports Madan Lal, representative from JKCA Ranjeet Kalra, Brig, Rawat besides thousands of sports lovers were present to witness the match.
