PHILLIES 2011 NATIONAL LEAGUE EAST CHAMPIONS

ST. LOUIS CARDINALS @ PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES

The Phillies and Cardinals played the final game of their four game series with the Phillies down two games to one. Roy Halladay started for the Phillies and Kyle Lohse for the Cardinals.

 

The Cardinals scored two runs off of Halladay in the first inning. One of the runs was a solo shot home run from Lance Berkman. The Phillies got one run back in the second with Carlos Ruiz driving in Palcido Polanco with a single.
Berkman returned the favor in the third with a RBI single of his own for his second RBI of the night. The Cardinals added their fourth run in the seventh with a RBI double from Albert Pujols.

David Herndon relieved Halladay in the ninth inning. Roy went eight innings allowing four runs on six hits with four walks and six K's. Herndon allowed one hit in the ninth no runs or walks with two K's.

The Phillies entered the bottom of the ninth losing 4-1. They made it interesting when Carlos Ruiz doubled and Jimmy Rollins hit his 100th career triple to score Ruiz. Shane Victorino scored Rollins with a grounder to shortstop and the score was 4-3. With two out Chase Utley singled to right and Hunter Pence grounded to third for the final out and the Cardinals win 4-3.

Roy Halladay (18-6) gets the loss, Lohse (14-8) the win for the Cardinals.

The Phillies lose the series three games to one. They play a doubleheader with  Washington in Philadelphia on Tuesday. They are now 14-9 in the "Final 33". Their  record is now 98-54, still two from 100 wins with ten games remaining. Maybe on Tuesday they win two and nail the 100 mark!
