SATURDAY QUICK HITS
The Phillies made up for their loss on Friday by crushing Atlanta 10-2. Carlos Ruiz hit a pinch hit grand slam and a run scoring double for a career high five RBI. The Phils had fifteen hits and eight of them were for extra bases. Besides the Ruiz grand slam Brian Schneider also had a home run. Roy Oswalt (2-0) pitched six innings giving up two runs, one earned on five hits. This was Oswalt's first win against the Braves, the only team in the National League he had not beaten in the regular season.
Boston had their first win on Friday but the Yankees put a quick halt to Boston having two in a row as they defeated them 9-4. The Red Sox are now 1-7 and the Yankees 5-3. Russell Martin had two of New York's four home runs. Robinson Cano and Curtis Granderson went deep also as Boston has now given up nineteen home runs in eight games.
Tampa Bay joined the Red Sox at 1-7 losing to the White Sox 4-2. Philip Humber got the win going six innings allowing one run on four hits. Ray's starter Wade Davis gets the loss and is now 0-2. As most know by now Manny Ramirez is retired as of Thursday and the Rays are looking for a spark to get them going. Did not happen today.... Rays fans are looking forward to Sunday.
The Texas Rangers suffered their first loss of the year, losing 5-0 to the Baltmore Orioles. They were the only unbeaten team left in the majors. Zach Britton pitched a jem allowing just four hits and no runs in 7 2-3 innings. He is now 2-0 for the O's. Mark Reynolds hammered a home run estimated at 422 feet for Baltimore, he was two for three with three RBI.
Detroit came up short today losing to the Royals 3-1. The Tigers are now 3-5 on the year and the Royals are off to a 5-3 start. Bruce Chen was the winning pitcher going six innings allowing no runs on three hits. Chen is 1-0 this year. Phil Coke is now 0-2 for Detroit as he gave up only two runs on three hits but with no run support gets the loss.
