WEDNESDAY QUICK HITS
The most important highlight for today: Tampa Bay at Boston POSTPONED! They both have an extra day to regroup, both teams need it!
The Chicago White Sox had a 4-1 lead in the top of the ninth when Oakland decided to make a run at the White Sox. They did so and Oakland scored three runs to tie it up and another three in the tenth for the win. The White Sox bullpen simply fell apart. Chris Sale and Matt Thornton each gave up three runs in relief for the White Sox, Thornton (0-2) gets the loss.
Hideki Matsui homered for Oakland and Coco Crisp hit a go-ahead single in the three run tenth. Crisp has been struggling and was 3-22 before his hit. Cliff Pennington was two for three with two RBI, and Daric Barton added two RBI for Oakland.
The Washington Nationals tried to take two in a row from the Phillies but they ran into starting pitcher Roy Halladay (2-0) and he was at his best until the ninth inning. He pitched a two hitter, both singles through eight. The ninth was a different story as Halladay allowed two runs but stopped the National's rally short to get his second win of the year. Halladay finishes the night pitching a complete game giving up two runs on six hits, walked two and struck out nine.
Placido Polanco went two for three for the Phils with one RBI. Ryan Howard(13) and Ben Francisco(8) had the other two RBI.
Wednesday April 13th was the second anniversary of the death of Phillies announcer Harry Kalas. We miss you Harry!
The Yankees jumped out to a 6-0 nothing lead after two and held on to win 7-4 over the Baltimore Orioles. A. J. Burnett is now 3-0 after defeating the Orioles, giving up four runs on seven hits, walking two and striking out five in 6 1-3 innings. Alex Rodriguez and Jorge Posada both homered for New York, they both have four homers this season.
Derek Jeter was two for four and is now tied with Barry Bonds for 32nd on the all-time hits list with 2,935.
The Orioles Brian Roberts and Matt Wieters both had two run home runs in the seventh. It was Roberts third and Wieters first home run of the season.
