TUESDAY QUICK HITS

PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES @ WASHINGTON NATIONALS

     Cliff Lee got the call to start for the Phillies and only lasted 5.1 innings. By the time he was lifted he had given up six runs, allowed seven hits and gave up three walks with four K's. Michael Stutes relieved Lee and gave up one hit in 0.2 innings. Danys Baez was next up and pitched one inning allowing three runs on four hits. Mike Zagurski was brought up from the minors today and he was next to take the mound for the Phillies.

 Mike pitched the eighth inning and walked two, allowed one hit and gave up one run. If you lost count we are now at ten runs allowed by the Phillies pitching staff. The five walks did not help or the thirteen hits. In the end it started down hill with Cliff Lee and got no better as Lee takes the 10-2 loss and is now 4-5 on the season.

     The Phillies offense consisted of back to back homers by Domonic Brown and John Mayberry. It was Brown's first and Mayberry's third of the season.

     The Washington Nationals started Jason Marquis and he pitched a strong 6.1 innings scattering eight hits and allowing two runs with four K's and no  walks. His record improves to a solid 6-2 this season.

     Danny Espinosa provided the spark for the Nationals offense going three for four with four RBI with two homers, his ninth and tenth of the year. Michael Morse also helped going three for five with two RBI.

With this win the Nationals are 23-31 and the Phillies are 34-21.
